- Hahaha I’m a fan of Drake’s, but I’m also a Chi native. Common KILLED this remix, along w/ Drake’s manhood. Lol sorry.
EDIT:
Just a note: I feel a lot of the mainstream hip hop artists nowadays are afraid of “beef.” Like the industry has strayed so far away from its roots, the idea of “battling” is no longer a part of the game. I’m not trying to come off like a “hip hop purist” (I hate that label btw) but battling is a huge part of hip hop. Using words/rhymes instead of guns/fists to prove a point, to prove your worth. Sometimes the reason behind the beef ain’t even clear cut.
Rappers nowadays are trying to please their audience members — younger listeners who aren’t used to the battling aspect. But this is something older generations are familiar with. Hip hop wouldn’t have been the same without Jay’s “Takeover” or Nas’ “Ether.” It wouldn’t be the same without “underground” rap battles that focus on wit and punchlines more than anything. To me, these battles are nothing personal, more business than anything, and definitely JUST hip hop. Deal with it.
